Synopsis:
"Shapeshifter" plays with the catchy tunes and clichés of the 1970s in an acoustic and visual "devil's ride". By quoting video games, retro MIDI sounds and classic film scenes our listening and viewing habits are called into question. Fragmented melodic quotations surprisingly break the genre boundaries between metal, sitar or panpipe sounds and suddenly switch to big band sounds or reggae. On the visual level, effects such as "day-for-night" color filters, trashy animations and green screen shots are used and switch between the different genres. Matchbox cars, Star Wars figures and other cult objects from the past fly through the frames, explode or sink into the depths of the sea. They are reminiscent of the first UFO landings from C Movies or borrow from films such as "Night Rider" or "Star Trek".
Biografy Melanie Hollaus (director):
Melanie Hollaus was born in 1980 in Austria. After acting school graduate she worked on performance art, short experimental videos and multi-channel-videos. Since 2008 she focused her work on documentary film and videos for exhibitions. She is a writer, director, cinematographer and editor.
